Instead of asking hypothetical questions like ” What Would you do if you were under too much pressure at work?”the employer will question the situation “” let's talk about how long you are under a lot of pressure at work. How did you solve it?”. And that's when we can apply behavioral psychology to this particular conversation.

What is a behavioral interview?

Behavioral interviewing is a common interview technique that employers use to evaluate candidates based on their past behavior. And with behavioral interview type questions, respond with behavioral psychology.

But first of all, in order to be well prepared for situations, review these contents before the interview:
– Job description.
– Large projects that you have ever done.
– Reviews of your previous work performance.
– List of your career achievements.
– Practice answering your interview out loud.
– Practice answering less than two minutes per sentence.

With behavioral interviews, interviewers often try to learn three things:
1. How did you behave in a real situation.
2. Quantify the effort, the value you spend to solve that situation.
3. How do you define situations. It's obstacles, challenges or opportunities.
That doesn't mean you have to have the right answer. These questions are aimed at understanding who you really are. The key is that you are honest and have a smart answer.

Recipe for smart answers

The interview has a recipe, you believe? Applying the recipe correctly, you can create a story that fascinates the interviewer.

1. Situation

What is the story context? Include: when, where this situation took place.
Examples: “We are working on a 6-month project for a large client and are forced to work onsite ICOs.”

2. Mission

What is your role in this situation?
Examples: “I am the leader of the team, leading the transition of tasks for the team, and at the same time coordinating with customers to the project in the right direction.”

3. Action
What did you do?
Examples: “I set up the project tasks myself and update the progress weekly for both the company and the client. This is intended to create an ICO product/ software that customers desire. I also direct each team member and partner, to assess the obstacles to be overcome, to ensure that we meet the deadlines.”

4. Results
What did your actions lead to?
For example, “we have completed the project on time, meeting all the technical requirements of the partner. We have also achieved optimal work and have been successful despite the pressure.”

How to prepare
Read the job description carefully.
Make a list of skills or qualifications that are required.
Think of a story that can showcase your abilities in that field or skill.
Practice answering monologues or with close friends. Remember that your answer should only last about 1 and a half to 2 minutes. Try to be brief.
If you feel shy or lack confidence, it is even more important to prepare in advance. You will feel comfortable entering the real interview. Of course, you will not be able to anticipate every question, but with a series of fictional situations already in place, you can have several options available.
